About Us

Auto Auction 4 U was founded in May 2012 by Ray Crockett, whose mission is to offer affordable, reliable and safe vehicles to the public. Prior to starting Auto Auction U, Ray worked in the auto retail industry for 20 years. During his stint as an auto sales consultant, Ray sold both new and used Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, and Acura cars.

The day finally came when Ray decided to start his own auto retail business. He began by selling his own late-model Mercedes-Benz. He then used the money from the sale of the Mercedes-Benz to buy four lower-priced cars. Ray subsequently sold all these four cars. From then on, he began buying and selling pre-owned vehicles.

With his business up and running, Ray was able to lease the three-acre location in Converse that now serves as the home for Auto Auction 4 U for over 6 years! Ray realized that he really enjoyed serving people and their particular transportation needs as well as offering auto financing on-site. A car doesn’t just get people from one point to another it is freedom and independence for the owner and their family to do life in!

Founder’s Story

Ray Crockett was born in San Antonio, TX. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School, graduated in 1980 and then attended the University of Riverside, California. Graduated 4 years later with a degree in Engineering. Ray went on to work for The Meridian-Huron Hospital of Cleveland Ohio, followed by a long run as the Director of Bio-Medical Engineering at the South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Georgia.

Ray’s parents were getting on in years and he desired to be home again to be closer to them. However, he discovered that the Engineering jobs in San Antonio did not pay as well as the positions he had held there in Georgia. One day he was playing golf with friends one of which was an owner of the Coca-Cola company, he also owned many auto dealerships and suggested Ray try his hand at car sales as that would allow him to go home and sell cars there and make the income he required. So, he found the car business a perfect fit for his gregarious and outgoing personality that would allow him to be friends within moments of meeting a perfect stranger! Using his considerable powers of persuasion and love of people he soon had success in the automobile sales career he had chosen. He started first at CARMAX for about 1 year in Atlanta, Georgia, moving then to ACURA for 2 years, followed by VOLVO for 2 years.

At this point, he made a move home to San Antonio Texas and accepted an offer of employment from local BENSON HONDA on San Pedro Ave. Ray was successful there for 5 years. Prior to moving to the Mercedes store, he was being aggressively recruited to join MB by the management there, however, he was doing well at Honda and declined their offers for 3 years! Ray finally made the move with some special conditions, Mercedes Benz of San Antonio and the high-line environment at the Mercedes franchise was one that Ray enjoyed for 10 years.

Ray was an excellent new and preowned salesman at MB, their best!! He was especially fond of assisting those whose credit would not allow normal finance sources to assist them and took pride in seeing them leave the dealership in new wheels! You can bet that Ray’s customers loved him and came back again and again as well as referred their own family, work associates, and neighbors! He began to realize that it was time to start his own business. Ray searched for a suitable location and found 3 acres for lease on FM 78 in Converse on the Northeast side of the now burgeoning city of San Antonio and near the legendary home of Air Force flight training, Randolph Air Force Base. He secured this location, got his dealer license from the State of Texas and opened for business on August 28, 2012.

Ray’s goal is to help his clients acquire much needed, reliable and affordable transportation which gives them back their freedom and dignity! And, if conventional finance programs were not attainable, he offered in-house loans to make the dream of attaining a car, truck or SUV a reality with low down payments. Now, five and a half years later, Ray and his entire staff are pleased to continue the tradition of bringing safe, reliable and affordable vehicles to all his customers, friends and fellow church members.
